A Leisure Afternoon with my Ex-colleague

It was an impromptu appointment I have fixed with Janice to meet her at Novena Square. After going to Cold Storage to pick up some stuffs & snacks for James, we took a leisure walk to Newton Kindergarten to wait for him to be released from class.
Half an hour passed and Janice has to walk toward the place where teachers will only allow students to be accompanied by familiar people to leave the kindergarten together. That was the same routine & guideline my two children's teachers had to abide when they were once studying at St James' Kindergarten.
Janice waited for the traffic to ease a little before going to pick up her car at the basement to drive us back to her home at Bishan.
We continued with our chit chatting the whole afternoon over our cups of coffee in her house. James was such a nice little guy, leaving us alone to catch up with so many things. He would go play with his dog and his games.
Before leaving the house, I stood at her patio and noticed how badly her garden has been neglected. I would very much like to grow a box of creeping daisy, various colours of bouganvilleas. let the cypress vine climb on the divider wall railing. Janice likes gardening but does not have much idea of what she wanted to do with it. It's partly because she is also lack of time to manage her garden because her maid has left and she has yet to find herself a helper.

Look at James's trademark smile, his dimples.

Mummy's 69th Birthday Celebration

Birthdays celebration with a little twist this year. Mum always like to try something new. She will not tell me what's in her mind but I know her well enough by now, to throw her little surprises every now and then. How I wish my dad is still living and can enjoy all these little happy moments together with us.
Since my dad is no more with us, my mummy will have to receive what I have to offer to her in double portions.

Instead of a traditional 8 or 9 course dinner which is becoming rather monotonous these days, we had a quick fun raw fish "Lo Hei" and porridge at the famous Chen Jie hawker store at Chinatown Food Centre and followed by a nice treat for her at tcc (airport terminal 3) to blow out her birthday candle. That's a surprise birthday celebration for her, arranged by my dear husband.

Photobucket
An upsized plate of parang fish salad "Lo Hei" for only $24.00

Photobucket
A bowl of pipping hot "tan chai" porridge for $3. It has sliced fish, fried peanuts and cuttlefish with crispy crackers and spring onion sprinkled on it.
A good combination to go with the raw fish salad which my mummy enjoys thoroughly during the lunar new year festive season.
Surprisingly, such a simple and appetizing combination is not available in upmarket restaurants and hotels.

Photobucket
Since the store owner's crowning of the SuperMummy title 全能俏妈妈 organised in 2008 by MediaCorp, "Pretty Girl" directly translated from the dialect Cantonese, has seen a jump in her fame in the Chinatown Food Centre.

Tossing up and cheering on for good health, prosperity, harmony and happiness, all with God's grace.

Fine Dining at Aerin's in Raffles Marketplace

Three of us, my boy, hubby and I were again deciding what's the best to pick for our meal. I jokingly suggested, for once, why not let's walk into the donut shop and order all the yummy donuts to take them as our dinner. I thought, there's not going to be a better chance to eat so many donuts at one go if it's not during a main meal time. Both of them straightaway stared at me in disbelief and said "No". My boy replied: "Main meal time must have savoury stuffs so not something like donuts. No way."

In the end, walking around the basement of Raffles Marketplace in Raffles City Shopping Centre for two rounds but still couldn't make up our minds. We were spoilt for choices - so many eateries. We finally narrowed down to three restaurants, Din Tai Fung, Kuriya or Aerin's. In the end, we walked into Aerin's. Good choice, no complaints.

Very good ambience (very important to us). Chic dining in a modern European gorgeous open setting.

Chargrilled Lamb Rump
(Half-done marinated grilled lamb served with onion braised, mashed fried bean & chipotle & aioli).
Recommend must have it half done - very juicy.

Fish & Chips
(Lightly battered snapper fillet served with shoestring fries and sauce)

This is their "must try" dish.

Yes, really very different from the one we have tried in many other restaurants.

Not only the fish is superb, even the fries is very well done.

Bangers and Mash
(herbs & garlic English pork
sauages with mashed potatoes
in beef juz)

Baked apple & rhubarb pie with vanilla bean ice-cream.
(Pot of oven baked granny smith apples, rhubarb and raisins, all covered in an oven-baked puff pastry, served with vanilla ice cream).
This is their house speciality dessert - Another "must try" item.

The fillings is pipping hot.
Do dip or spread some ice-cream with the crush & fillings to savour it. Yummmmy!

Satisfied, satisfied...

Friendship and Blogging

In my journey of learning blogging, I get to know very nice fellows like Ming Chern, Perry, Aloysius, Benjamin and Stuart. Ming Chern, especially a good friend, has thought me a lot of important stuffs I need to know about blogging to make it not just a tool for relaxation but also a platform to generate income. How big and far I want my blogging business to go is, of course, up to me.

Well, so staying at home is not a bad BUSINESS after all.

cheers!

My Fourth Uncle's Home in Thailand

This is my third uncle and his wife (both on the bike). It's their visit to my fourth uncle's holiday home in Thailand.

My fourth uncle with his brother-in-law's air rifle. He uses it for birds shooting trips.

A holiday home of their own in Thailand.

Back to nature. Even having a dragonfruit shrub in their yard. Fancy plucking one off the shrub when it ripens?

How about chopping the bananas down by yourself? You will be wondering why didn't he chop it only when it ripen on the tree. It would have attracted a lot of ants if he had waited.

Envy the proud owner of this garden.

More fruit trees ... Hmmm, mangoes ...

... coconuts

Kampong spirit. Away from the hussle and bustle of city living. Relax ...
